JSCOR visits the State Department
On October 9, 2015, JSCOR postdoctoral fellow, Dr. Neeraja Nagarajan, was invited to the US State Department to present at the Global Diaspora Week launch event. The event featured a keynote speech by Secretary of State John Kerry and an interview with Grammy-winning recording artist Angelique Kidjo.
Dr. Nagarajan gave a presentation during a breakout session entitled "Diaspora-Driven Capacity Building in Health". Her talk was entitled "Increasing Biomedical Research in Low and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs)" and focused on her recent trip to India to lead a research seminar for medical students at her medical school alma mater. Joseph Nwadioku, a medical resident at Johns Hopkins Hospital, moderated the session.
Global Diaspora Week is jointly sponsored by the US State Department, USAID, and the International Diaspora Engagement Alliance (IDEA) and features many activities around the world. The aim is to encourage professionals who are living and working away from their home countries to engage in development and training activities in their home countries.
